LandSpace Zhuque-3 Yao-2 Enters Factory Exit Phase After Problem Resolution, Targeting Q2 Launch

Summary: LandSpace announced on April 30 that its Zhuque-3 Yao-2 reusable liquid rocket has completed problem resolution and entered the factory exit phase, targeting a Q2 2026 launch. The rocket will conduct first-stage vertical landing recovery tests during this mission. If successful, Zhuque-3 Yao-2 will become the first Chinese commercial rocket to achieve vertical recovery and reuse, marking a major milestone in China's reusable rocket technology.

Zhuque-3 Yao-2 Background

Zhuque-3 (Zhu Que, meaning "Vermilion Bird") is LandSpace's next-generation reusable liquid launch vehicle. The Yao-2 variant features improved reliability and reusability compared to the earlier Yao-1 prototype. The rocket uses liquid oxygen/methane (LOX/LCH4) propellant, with multiple engines powering the first stage.

The previous Yao-1 test flight encountered anomalies that required design modifications. The engineering team has since resolved the issues and completed comprehensive testing. The factory exit milestone confirms the vehicle is ready for transport to the launch site.

China's Reusable Rocket Competition

2026 is shaping up to be a decisive year for Chinese commercial reusable rocket technology. Multiple vehicles are competing to achieve first-stage vertical landing:

  • Zhuque-3 Yao-2 (LandSpace): Q2 launch target, vertical recovery
  • Yueqian-1 (Dahang Yuetian): Tower-catch approach, 2027 maiden flight target
  • Long March 10B (CASC): Sea-based flexible net capture, Q2 2026 target
  • Lijian-2 (CAS Space): Recoverable launch planned for 2026

LandSpace, as one of China's earliest commercial rocket companies, is working to reclaim its position in the reusable rocket race with Zhuque-3 Yao-2.
